Get Unstuck and Clarify Your Career
Increase Your Self-Awareness and Learn About the World of Work
The average American changes careers 10 – 15 times in their lifetime. Too often we decide on a career without truly knowing ourselves and what motivates us besides a great salary. We also need to know which jobs fit your interests, skills, and experiences, and the jobs’ employment outlook. Without both, we make uninformed career decisions based on chance and costly risks.
With deeply insightful discussions and activities, you will discover your primary interests in six areas. Are you a helper, artist, risk-taker, organizer, fixer, thinker, and what combination of these? What do you value most in your career? Is it independence, virtue, status, nonconformity, simplicity, predictability, flexibility, connection….? Once you have clarity on these, align your self-awareness with career profiles that have the latest labor market data. Make meaningful career choices based on deep insights about yourself and realistic information about career choices.

Ellie is a certified career counselor and coach with experiences teaching Personal Development to undecided college students and Career Education Techniques and Applications to Pepperdine University graduate students. She is certified in CliftonStrengths, Strong Interest Inventory, and Myers-Briggs
Ellie leverages your natural talents to both optimize your success and your wellbeing. She began her career as a school psychologist and talked herself out of her career by focusing too much on students’ strengths. Feeling burnt-out in a role focusing on what’s broken instead of maximizing on what’s right with students, she pursued a second graduate degree in career education and counseling. Since then, she has taught Pepperdine University’s Career Techniques and Applications, engaging all students on CliftonStrengths throughout the entire course.
Referred to as the “Kanye West of Resume Writers,” Ellie unleashes strengths in the most overlooked job experiences for successful outcomes.
Interests are a powerful motivational process that motivates learning. Interests are essential in both academic success and career satisfaction. Explore your interests in six broad areas, known as RIASEC, researched and validated by the Strong Interest Inventory: Realistic (fixers), Artistic (creators), Investigative (thinkers), Social (helpers), and Conventional (organizers). Identify your personal style: do you enjoy taking risks or playing it safe? Do you enjoy leading others or prefer to be led? How much do you prefer working independently vs. part of a team? Participate in a values activity to dive deeper about what really motivates you in a career; values are chosen freely and not influenced by others’ input. Since work environments vary in how they meet the needs and values of individuals, make well-informed decisions that are a good fit for your interests and your values. Have access to the bureau of labor statistics’ profile updates about careers’ interests, values, skills, and employment outlook.
